Out and About on Exmoor
Porlock, situated "twixt moor and sea" is the ideal base for exploring the beautiful Exmoor National Park, whether by foot, bike or car. Exmoor has something to offer everyone, from wild animals and birds, spectacular views, archaeology and vernacular architecture to steam trains, walks, rural museums and National Trust properties. All are within easy reach of Porlock.
There are many pretty villages to explore. Close by are the National Trust owned chocolate box villages of Selworthy and Bossington with lime washed thatch cottages, village greens and a lovely church at Selworthy. Further afield is the village of Dunster with its medieval Yarn Market, working water mill, tea rooms and castle that dominates the village.
Taunton and Barnstable are only 45 minutes away whilst Exeter can be reached in about an hour and a quarter. Taunton is our nearest mainline train station and motorway access (M5). Local transport is quite good with regular buses from Porlock to Minehead, Lynton, Lynmouth, Taunton and Barnstable. Minehead is the nearest town with services and is only a 10 minute drive away.
